I thought it was hot this month, really, this is ridiculous. Records being set! Kids will be showing up in beach wear for costumes! I woke up to rain this morning, all 3 minutes of it. Thought I'd better bring a sweatshirt along on my early morning walk what with the overcast skies and wet pavement and dark clouds. . . well, it was very soon that I peeled that off and enjoyed the first cool breeze of the month!!
I was watching PBS News Hour with Jim Lehrer and they talked about the youth vote. Before I knew it they were filming at JMU and the appearance of Obama on campus. They talked to a few students. The filming continued at Leesburg, George Mason University and Fredrickburg, before ending up at the McCain Headquarters in Virginia. http://www.pbs.org/newshour/newshour_index.html You can check it out here and see if you recognize anyone!
Liam, Joe's oldest (and same age as Nolan), Nolan, and Sean say Happy Halloween.
Nolan won best "creepiest" costume!
Eileen, (Sarah Palin) and winner of best costume overall, mom, who won coolest costume, and me party on.
These distinguished ladies discuss politics; Rita, won for scariest costume, and mom.
The girlfriends unite again!!
Priceless!!!
The "Pollard four".
Reeff family. Pat won for most humorous. You probably can't see the pink angel wings on his back. Jackie won for most original. Melanie was "Fannie May" in overalls, but thanks to the bailout, still has her jewels.
I've fininshed decorating and the party is going to start shortly. Just thought I'd take a few pictures and do a quick blog to show you first before anyone arrives.
Welcome!!
Don't forget to check out the front yard graveyard!
Oh, this side, too.
Here is the table all ready for guests!
And check out the ghouls hanging in the backyard tree strung with lights.
OOh. . . the witch had an accident. . . does the bench look familiar?? If not, check out an earlier blog on the projects that I have that need doin'.
Backyard has a graveyard, too!
A few tables set up in the back. Weather is great, about 80 today, should be nice out back tonight!
Oh, we passed the buffet. Wine tasting on the left and the food on the right. Gift for whomever bring the best wine by the windows!
One last look before you leave. . . Bye! Hope you had fun!!
These balloons were Happy Birthday balloons for Joe's party. We had extras after decorating and the boys just stuck them on the ceiling. But, that was too boring. . . bored, they went looking for fun. . .
First, the boys stuck one on mom. Funny, huh?
Jackie was the next target. She was such a nice target, she got four balloons stuck to her!
Melanie, then had fun with balloons. . . looney for a laugh!
We celebrated Joseph's 24th at the twins last weekend. It was a great liitle celebration with everyone. Joe wanted pie, but he was having a cold and after blowing out the candles that kept relighting, he kept blowing. Before long we all realized that we didn't want any of that pie, so we just gave him a fork and said "Go for it"!
We were taking pictures and we noticed how tall Jackie was next to the twins, so we had them stand back to back, sort of, to compare heights. . . pretty close, eh?
Then we checked out the guys. . . alright we all know Joe is the tallest, but then who???
With all the partying, the bird got excited and took flight. . . the avian expert took over and got the bird back to her cage.
Taylor, not to be outdone, befriended the cute little bird until he got on his finger and then climbed up on his shoulder. Taylor walked around for quite a while with the bird being just as happy as can be just sitting there, until nature called and Taylor rethought his desire to befriend the creature this close up.
We had a couple slow days in the CTICU, very unusual. The nurses got right to decorating for the Halloween season. Someone found these pumpkins and started drawing jack-o-lantern faces on them and putting them on the doors of the patient rooms. Then, another nurse found a picture of one of the critical care attendings and put him in a pumpkin with his always present bowtie. Well, since there are seven attendings, the decorating frenzy was soon underway. Next, came the four surgical attendings. . . notice the "Barry" Potter, the Dr. Frank"Epstein", We have a Hulk, pirate, Batman, Wonder Woman, a tabby, princess, Dracula and the Bee. The happy bosses day just happen to be there from the week before.
I was checking on what the dow had done today and bumped into this reflection on a blog. I stole his post picture from a post one year ago, but oh, it is still so relevant today!! Had to share!
Wildfires are burning, freeways shut down, evacuation are ongoing, hot, windy weather. . . Now, it's officially the fall season! Our kids don't have snow days, they have fire days!
Walking along, I was counting all the Obama signs and was amazed at how many and how many different kinds of signs there were. Couldn't find one McCain sign.
Then, I came upon this 2 story sign a neighbor had put up on their hill that looks out over the lake.
Terry's cooking one of my favorite mexican dinners. . . chiles rellenos!!
I love my personal chef!
He is using sweet red paceos instead of green chiles, they are beautiful.
Here, I'll give you a close up view! He's already blistered them, peeled and seeded them and stuffed them with cheese and stuck a toothpick in to keep them together.
Don't they look delicious?
He then dips them in an double dip batter. . . first he mixes a flour bath, and then they go into an egg batter that has separated eggs. . . . the yolks mixed with milk and then the whites which were whipped to a peak were gently folded in and provided the second dip before set on the fire to brown. Yum!
. . .while he does all that work in the kitchen, he thought to bring me out a glass of wine with chips and dip to enjoy while I catch up on the debate!
About a block down the hill and across from "dog park" is the home of John C. Reilly, most recently appearing in Stepbrothers. He just had it painted.
This house is just up the block from us and is owned by a former Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle!
The house is on the top of a hill and set back, so we can only see the entrance.
This house is on the street right behind us and a couple doors down from Terry's mom.
The owner is a professor at Cal Arts and has written a Broadway play!
This house is directly across the steet from Terry's mom and not one, but two Emmy award winners reside here.
Behind this foliage, down the street from the Ninja Turtle, lives Sal Lopez and his family. Sal has appeared in Commanche Moon and more recently in the film Astronaut Farmer.
That ends the tour. Now watch your step as you exit the bus! Have a great day!
I thought I'd share a little weekend with the twins. After doing the shopping for the week, we spent some time with their new bird, a cockatiel. They haven't been able to coax him on their finger yet, but he will sit out and visit with us on his cage door. He can be quite noisy at times.
Soon, it was time to make dinner. The twins were shucking the corn here.
I cooked the chicken and made a mushroom saute to put on top.
Along with shoestring zucchini tossed with parmesan, it made a pretty plate.
We picked flowers from their garden for the table and ate out on the patio. It had cooled down enough from a hot day and the breeze was delightful. We had a visit from the neighborhood cat, "the pretty one", I was informed.
We took a neighborhood walk. It was just about dark when we got home. Reminded me of "firefly" time of day.
