'Twas about two weeks before Christmas!

'Twas about two weeks before Christmas
When all through the house
Not a decoration was hanging
For she felt like a louse.
Her nose was running,
The tissues were flying
No one even gave a thought
St. Nicholas was coming.
And Mama with her coughing
Snug under her wrap
Began to panic
And banished her nap.
Away to the mall she flew like a flash
Eight hours later, she unloaded the stash.
Those reindeer are coming
I must decorate
And out came the boxes, though not lively and quick
She knew in a moment, she might not keep up with St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles the curses they flew
But she drowned out the madness
With cocoa and brew
As dry leaves before the hurricane fly
Flour, eggs and butter
To store she did buy
And then in a twinkling
The cookies were made
And her clothes were all covered with crumbs and were frayed.
But her eyes how they twinkled
No dimples, but oh she was merry!
The tree was just right
All glittering gold
But the ground that Christmas would not be covered with snow
But her son, who was leaving, wouldn't miss Christmas at home.
She spoke not a word but went straight to her work
She spoke not a word but went straight to her work
And she filled up the room with music and joy
For soon, he'd be leaving and would fly far away
Because now, she'd realize, he's no longer a boy.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a Good Nite!
