Kids in Town!
Sean and Katie had their 5th wedding anniversary! They wanted to spend it in San Clemente, so they told us
to clear the calendar down at the beach for them.
They were driving across country from Ohio, through
Nashville, Memphis, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.
They arrived in San Clemente and spent the week there.
I didn't know at the time, they not only were traveling with
Bentley, but also a fish that Katie has in her classroom.
It made it across country with no harm done!
I am amazed!
Any way.
They came out to see us the weekend before going home and we
had a great visit!
We had a couple family over for a visit with them,
Maureen, Kevin, Colleen, John and James.
Terry ran out for a few items while I set up for the party
and the kids went down to visit Grandma.
Waiting for everyone to arrive, I got a call from Maureen
that something was going on in Silver Lake.
We had heard sirens and helicopters, but, well, we don't pay
too much attention to those here.
Then, she calls back and says turn on CNN!
Terry had picked up those few items only a short time earlier at
this Trader Joe's!
Were we happy that he didn't run late this time, like he usually does!
Well, a late party is still a party!
Terry bbq'd, and Taylor made Terry's infamous
"La Bomba bread".
James got a lesson.
Success! They took them out to bake in the pizza oven.
It blew up beautifully! He almost couldn't get it out of
the oven!
But, he did and it was great.
Terry dressed it with olive oil, parmesan and basil.
Delicious!
The next morning it was Bentley's breakfast time!
Bentley has megaesophagus. He really has trouble getting
his food into his stomach because his enlarged
food pipe's muscles don't work like they should.
His food gets trapped in his throat and he is at risk for
aspiration and pneumonia.
Only through the dedication and energy of his loving parents
does he survive. He is a lucky puppy!
They set up an enclosure with pads for easy
clean up and a high chair to keep his head elevated.
Ideally, he would be positioned in an adapted high chair for dogs,
but this is a set up that works for him.
It takes him a long time to eat!
Indulge me my" grandma pics".
He is such a sweet dog.
We had a lovely visit with grandma that day,
and after setting up his dinner that night,
we were in the house and smelled the strongest odor of skunk!
I looked out the back door, and poor Bentley was frothy saliva and pawing at his face!
He'd been skunked! Traveled all across the rural country, arrives practically
in downtown Los Angeles and finds a skunk!
We quickly hosed him down and I ran out for supplies!
Hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and Dawn dish soap!
Oh, Bentley.
Maybe not all wonderful and traditional,
but we sure made memories!
